  The image collection in the Missouri Botanical Garden Archives contains images ranging in date from 1850 through the present. They include modern and historic gardens, architecture, scientific explorations and variety of other subjects. Because of Missouri Botanical Garden.s age, and worldwide reputation, these images are of local, national and international significance. The collection contains a variety of formats including glass plate negatives, magic lantern slides, stereo-view prints, photographic prints, postcards and 35 mm slides. We have concentrated our initial efforts on our 19th and early 20th century images but over time will add images from all time periods, including contemporary. Take a stroll through time to see what one of America's oldest botanical gardens was like between 1856 and 1920. You will be greeted by ladies with parasols, children in their beautiful nineteenth century clothing, and even the Garden's founder, Henry Shaw himself... In these historical images you will see many buildings and gardens which today's visitor might recognize but many which are now changed, or lost forever. More than five hundred images are available for viewing and are taken from the Garden Archives. These include glass plate negatives, hand-tinted prints, stereographs, postcards and manuscripts.
