When searching for a name, be aware that many first names were commonly abbreviated, e.g., Geo., Jno., Thos., and Wm. Newspapers also often referred to individuals by initials and a last name. Women are usually referred to by their married names, e.g., Mrs. Jno. Hendricks. Newspapers may also have spelled surnames in more than one way. Please try variants when searching. Description provides a brief summary of the article or context in which the indexed entry appears. See and See Also notes in the field refer researchers to other indexed names or terms. See was often used even when information is present in the description field. Title includes the name of the newspaper, the date, the page number, and the column number in which the indexed term appears. Contact Send us your comments and questions on this collection: Contact. |
